Roti is an essential part of our diets. Pakistanis tend to eat roti at least twice a day. Even though roti is not unhealthy as such but when you are on your way to lose weight, even the simplest and smallest thing need to be taken into consideration. That is basically where I found a need for Detox roti that is made by Sorghum flour and Bottle guard. The main goal of Detox roti is to help decrease one`s flour intake without decreasing portion of food consumed daily.

Talking about Bottle guard/Lauki, it is a part of cucumber family and grows in the warmer areas. It is not only light and easy to digest but is also great for weight-loss so is known to be a dietitian`s favorite. This versatile vegetable has many health benefits and can be safely added to the diet- be it diabetes, weight loss, healthy heart, pregnancy, kidney and liver disease. 1 cup of chopped bottle guard is about 145g  RDA (Recommended Daily Allowance).  As bottle guard is a perfect thirst quencher, it will re-energize your body and prevent further fatigue. Also diabetics can safely add it in their diets and be assured of no fluctuations in their blood sugar level.  

Now come to the second functional ingredient of the Detox roti which is the Sorghum flour. While you may have not heard of sorghum before, this grain has been around for centuries. Sorghum is a nutrient-packed grain that you can use in many ways. It is rich in vitamins and minerals like B vitamins, magnesium, phosphorus, zinc, potassium and iron. It is also an amazing source of antioxidants, carbohydrates, fiber and protein. So it is easy to add up sorghum in your diets as it is a nutrient-rich cereal grain. Its merits do not just end up here it is also widely used as a natural and cost-effective substitute to other grains.

Detox roti is very simple to make. To begin with it, first wash, peel and grate the bottle guard. Then take a 1:1 ratio of sorghum flour and grated bottle guard. Add coriander leaves and salt as needed. Mix all the ingredients slowly. As we knead, moisture starts to release from the bottle guard and flour binds with its own moisture that is why we normally do not add water. Add a bit of oil and knead again so as to make the dough pliable. Set aside for 30 minutes. Make balls of equal sizes. Flour the rolling area and sprinkle flour on the balls and flatten them. With the help of a rolling pin, roll a ball slightly thicker than we roll a roti. Heat a tawa and roast both sides of the roti, immediately keep the roti over the flame directly with a spatula. The roti will fluff. Remove from the flame. The Detox roti is ready. You may have it with lentils or mint chutney.

This Detox roti is most liked of current trending foods in the World. It will help your body to keep hydrated and cool. As this roti is rich in iron, you may have it in the morning that is the best time for its consumption because having black tea or green tea after this roti will help your body in absorption of iron. It helps in relieving restlessness, laziness and sleepiness. It aids in preserving many vital functions in the body including general energy, focus, immune system, gastro-intestinal processes and also regulates body temperature. Since we are surrounded with toxins all the time, it is crucial to give our body a break from them and time to heal. Many detoxification methods are present but this is the simplest at-home detox recipe that anyone can follow.
