How Dolce & Gabbana Cares for the Environment

How Dolce & Gabbana Cares for the Environment

The ethical code of Dolce & Gabbana is focused on maintaining harmonious relations with customers, vendors, and the environment. Caring for the environment is a particularly high priority as its health is foundational to all future endeavors.

Moving Away From Fur

Historically, many populations, particularly the indigenous populations of North America, considered animals sacred and tried to use all the parts of a hunted animal to show respect to the creature. This practice included using fur for clothing. Unfortunately, fur production has moved away from these traditional practices. Although fur seems like a natural, environmentally-friendly material, the modern production process is quite harmful to our planet. The furs are frequently treated with chemicals that are dangerous to the environment. The animals are often kept on farms that require an abundance of energy and other resources to maintain. Animals that are not raised on farms are caught in traps. This leads to loss of biodiversity which negatively impacts the food chain and the larger ecosystem.

Dolce & Gabbana has discontinued the use of animal fur and is replacing it with a synthetic version that is more eco-friendly. Although traditional fur will no longer be used, the brand will continue its relationships with furriers and collaborate on designs using synthetic fur. Maintaining these relationships will minimize economic disruption and ensure design quality stays consistent.

In addition to the environmental benefits, faux fur has a couple of other advantages over traditional fur. It is more durable and less expensive to manufacture. However, unlike real fur, synthetic fur does not do well in extremely cold weather. Fortunately, there are other synthetic materials available for this purpose.

Producing Quality Items

Inexpensive clothing that does not last long, known as fast fashion, has a negative impact on the environment. Producing clothing requires energy, water, and chemical usage. Clothing that does not last long has to be replaced more frequently, creating more strain on the environment. When items wear out and are discarded, they tend to end up in landfills or incinerators. Incinerating clothing pollutes the air with unhealthy gases. Landfills create toxic gases, affect soil quality, pollute water sources and impact biodiversity.

Fashion’s environmental impact can be minimized by purchasing higher-quality items. With proper care, pieces from Dolce & Gabbana last longer than their less expensive counterparts. An individual can use the same pieces season after season. Additionally, these items can be sold to second-hand stores, where others can purchase them rather than buying new.

Many clothing manufacturers use cheaper, less eco-friendly materials to produce clothing. Dolce & Gabbana is working to make the production process and the final products eco-friendly while still maintaining the style and quality that buyers expect.

Choose from Dolce & Gabbana’s wide selection of high-quality, fur-free pieces. By doing so, you are investing in both your wardrobe and your environment. Properly care for your purchase so that it lasts as long as possible. If you tire of it, take it to the thrift store to keep it out of the landfill.
